Administration

Fire Chief

The Fire Chief is responsible for the oversight of and direction for Puget Sound Regional Fire
Authority. The Chief overseas all the departments within Puget Sound Fire. He is accountable to
the Governance Board, the Maple Valley Fire Commissioners, and most importantly – the public
that we serve. He also coordinates with our communities, local governments and our
neighboring public service agencies.

Administration

Our administrative team is instrumental in keeping Puget Sound Fire organized and running
efficiently. With administrative assistance in each of our departments, these team members
provide support that is vital to the overall operations and coordination among departments and
the organization as a whole.

Human Resources

Puget Sound Fire employs approximately 350 employees – about 270 uniformed personnel
including firefighters, nurses and mechanics, and about 80 non-uniform support personnel.
The Human Resource team facilitates a supportive work environment with Puget Sound
Fire’s mission, vision, core values and culture. We are committed to implementing effective
Human Resource programs and being helpful to those seeking assistance in making Puget
Sound Fire a positive and efficient work environment.
To make this happen, our Human Resources Division has a Director, as well as a team of
specialists, analysts, coordinators, assistants and a Civil Service Examiner. This team has
the following responsibilities:

  • Recruitment and hiring
  • Administration of compensation and benefits
  • Labor and employee relations
  • Policy development & administration
  • Compliance with local, state, federal labor & employment laws
  • Organizational charts
  • Discipline procedures, and
  • Civil Service compliance; to include entry level positions and promotions.

Finance

The Finance Division proudly support the operations of the Fire Department by bringing in
the funds and paying the expenses to keep the business of the Fire Department running
smoothly.

Our Division provides accountability for all public funds, assets, policies and systems. We
assist with developing strategies for the RFA and we develop the annual budget to fund
those plans. The Finance Division prepares management Financial Reports for our

Governance Board and Leadership Team, and Annual Financial Reports for the State of
Washington which are audited by the Washington State Auditor’s Office.
Additionally, Finance processes prompt and accurate Accounts Payable payments for
agency expenses and generates Accounts Receivable invoicing and Grant revenue
recovery.
